The Living Memorial Museum Sub Group has commissioned a comprehensive audit of artefacts (e.g. objects, artworks, letters, audio and film recordings, ephemera) relating to the conflict in and about Northern Ireland. The audit is being conducted by Kris Brown through a joint fellowship post at the Institute of irish Studies in Queen’s University Belfast. The purpose of the fellowship is not only to carry out the audit but also to prepare relevant papers for publication which link the community, museum and academic worlds. The position at Queens is for two years.
The group has also completed an Open Call for Ideas on what form a Living Memorial Museum to the conflict coukd take. The Open Call ran from July to September 2006, was launched and backed by internationally-acclaimed local singer Brian Kennedy, and included seven public workshops and a number of private workshops with interested organisations and community groups. The group is now considering all the submissions received, ranging from written notes, sketches, paintings and designs. Plans are also underway for displaying the submissions received to help generate further discussion and ideas.
