The conference on 21 September is an important opportunity to discuss the issues, challenges and benefits of this initiative, and to consider the future for the Day. HTR fieldworkers will outline the key findings of previous evaluations carried out. The discussion will include input from a wide range of people regarding the Day, and will also demonstrate the types of activities that are held across these islands either on or around the Day. Participants will have an opportunity to have an informed, facilitated discussion on the issues.
Issues to be considered include:
Should HTR still manage it? Should politicians/unions/churches be more involved?
Should it remain a private day? Should it be day of Reconciliation? Should it be a holiday?
Should HTR be more prescriptive about activities? Should HTR hold an event?
Is it still needed? Should it be phased out or stepped up?
The conference will close with a consideration of the issues raised for the future of the Day.
The conference will be an opportunity to share local knowledge and experiences and to contribute to the wider debate on dealing with the past.

Healing Through Remembering are holding an event to consider the opportunities and challenges in marking the Day of Private Reflection in 2010.
The event will run from 10:30am to 1pm and will be followed by a light lunch.
The Day of Private Reflection on 21 June 2010 is a day to acknowledge the deep hurt and pain caused by the conflict, to reflect on our own attitudes, on what more we might have done or might still do, and to make a personal commitment that such loss should never be allowed to happen again. This follows positive evaluations of the Day of Private Reflection held in 2007 and 2008.

The Day of Private Reflection will be marked on Monday, 21 June 2010.
The Day of Private Reflection on 21 June is an initiative proposed by Healing Through Remembering (HTR), a cross-community organisation focused on ways of dealing with the past relating to the conflict in and about Northern Ireland. HTR has been marking and promoting the Day since 2007.
The Day of Private Reflection is offered as an inclusive and positive event that emphasises a commitment to a peaceful new society. It provides a voluntary opportunity for everyone in Northern Ireland, the Republic of Ireland and Great Britain to reflect upon the conflict in and about Northern Ireland and the future that is before us.
The Day of Private Reflection on 21 June is offered as a day for personal, private and individual reflection, for example, at home or at work or within a family, group or organisation.
Public events are not to be a feature of the Day.
The Day of Private Reflection will be evaluated to inform the decision on whether to proceed with this initiative in future years and if so, in what format.
